At YSSC we’ve spent the last two decades as Certified Yoga Teachers helping people walk right.
Our journey in yoga has led us to discover the inextricable relationship between right walking and total well-being. Those who study with YSSC learn it's not about taking your yoga practice "off the mat," it's about taking it into each step. To date, all who have studied yoga and walking with us have been amazed to learn a simple life-changing piece of information--they don't walk right! And, if not addressed, the way they are walking can be doing untold future harm.
Our expertise about walking evolved from decades of study, investigation, personal practice, teaching and training in the fields of movement, dance, fitness and yoga. Over time, we came to the clear realization that there is a correct, perfect--"right" way to walk. And that "right walk" is life-sustaining, healthifying and mind changing.
We found that, paradoxically, our modern society's technological advancements has led people, to a large degree, to disconnect from their natural elements and to lose their balanced relationship with earth and sky. It is no surprise to us at YSSC that runners from remote villages in places like East Africa and South America (where tech is limited and exercise equipment doesn't exist) outrun in speed and efficiency those living and training in regions where the most advanced technology is utilized. These runners have trained on natural unadulterated surfaces with minimal footware and live in regions where technology has not saturated their daily lifestyle choices. As a result, they maintain a physical state more in proximity to what we refer to as the body's "original blueprint."
Our challenge lies first in bringing awareness to the poor habits, destructive misalignments and compensating structures resulting from the disconnections born from modern life; and second to begin the long process of deconstructing/unlearning these habits and patterns while reeducating the body for a more natural, healthy walk--the way it was originally meant to be. Barefoot walking on natural surfaces--the beach, parks, grassy fields, etc. help wake up the feet and start the process.
To support this process, our team has created WalkRight. WalkRight is an invaluable tool for promoting what will be a new paradigm for walking. WalkRight will provide the benefits of movement while reinforcing only proper movement/walking skills. We have the knowledge and the necessary skillset to program sensors to help people achieve a better walk - - a better life!
Cutting edge sensor technology on WalkRight will monitor and alert the user of poor patterns and habits so that unlearning and deconstucting them can begin...
Step 1: Awareness. It will then guide the user in establishing more natural, healthful and sustaining patterns and habits.
Step 2: Practice. Ultimately, proper consistent use of the device, coupled with a barefoot walking practice on natural surfaces, will lead to more efficient, graceful, and enjoyable walking.

We have used the slow motion technology of the iPhone to graphically show the destructive misalignments that are common to most people's "normal" walk. At our school, our students have benefitted from the years of experience of our teachers who have learned to recognize and then help to deconstruct the damaging musculoskeletal patterns and then reeducate the body to a natural healthy walk.
